The USO is excited to welcome Jason E. Burkett, Colonel, U.S. Marine Corps (Ret.), as the new Executive Director for USO Gulf Coast. With an illustrious 24-year military career and a steadfast commitment to service, Jason brings unparalleled leadership, strategic acumen, and dedication to strengthening the well-being of our service members and their families.

Throughout Jason’s Marine Corps career, he held numerous distinguished positions, including leadership roles in combat operations during Operation IRAQI FREEDOM, strategic policy analysis at Headquarters Marine Corps, and command of multiple units within the Marine Corps Reserve.

His final assignment in New Orleans saw him assume the triple-hatted command of Headquarters Battalion, Marine Corps Forces Reserve (MFR); Headquarters Marine Corps Forces South; and the Marine Corps Support Facility (MCSF). In this role, Jason was instrumental in enhancing readiness, morale, and force protection for over 1,800 Marines, Sailors, and Civilian Marines. He retired in 2024, having earned numerous accolades, including the Legion of Merit and the Meritorious Service Medal.

“Jason Burkett embodies the USO’s mission of connection, commitment, and compassion. His remarkable career and passion for supporting service members and their families make him the perfect leader for the USO Gulf Coast,“ said Lisa Marie Riggins, Regional President, USO Southeast Region. "We are thrilled to have him join our team and bring his extraordinary vision to this vital region.”

As the Executive Director, Jason is poised to lead the USO Gulf Coast in its mission of strengthening the well-being of the service members and their families living throughout Louisiana and Mississippi.

“The USO has always been a cornerstone of support for our armed forces, and it is an incredible honor to lead the Gulf Coast team,” said Jason. “My time in New Orleans reinforced my commitment to building resilient, connected military communities, and I look forward to continuing that work by enhancing programs and ensuring every service member and their family in this region feels supported and valued.”
