runDisney Virtual Race Series Supports USO Central Florida

ARLINGTON, Va. – runDisney’s Summer Virtual Race Series supporting the USO drew strong interest shortly after opening on April 7, 2026, highlighting enthusiasm from walkers and runners eager to support U.S. service members and military communities.

This summerlong initiative, which benefits the United Service Organizations (USO), will allow participants to complete races from any location, making it accessible to athletes of all ages and experience levels.

“runDisney brings people together through movement, storytelling, and purpose,” said Jason Burkett, USO Executive Director for Florida, Mississippi, and Louisiana. “Participants can experience the joy and motivation of a runDisney event while knowing their efforts are helping support the people serving today in uniform.”

The series continues runDisney’s tradition of combining fitness, storytelling, and philanthropy, while offering flexibility for those unable to attend in person race weekends at Disney destinations. One individual taking on the series challenge is Sgt. Maj. Kendra Rooney, who will be completing the virtual races near her current duty station.

“As a service member with a deployed spouse, I value what the USO provides, not just to those in uniform, but to the families who carry the mission at home,” said Rooney, Command Sergeant Major for 89th Troop Command with the Colorado Army National Guard. “Their support extends beyond services, it reinforces resilience, connection, and the strength of our military community. Support from organizations like Disney help amplify that impact by bringing moments of hope, recognition, and inspiration to service members and their families.”

This year’s virtual series features 5K races inspired by classic Disney stories, along with an optional challenge for participants who complete all three. Runners who take on the full challenge will cover a total of 9.3 miles and earn a bonus finisher medal. All registered participants receive digital race materials and commemorative medals shipped directly to their homes.

“Support from events like the runDisney Virtual Race Series allows the USO to continue delivering critical programs and moments of connection to service members and their families, no matter where they are in the world,” said USO Central Florida Area Operation Manager Dr. Kimberly DeVries. “We’re grateful to everyone who chooses to turn their miles into meaningful support for those who serve.”

The race series will help fund USO programs in the Central Florida Region that provide connection, resources, and support to active duty service members and their families. The USO’s ability to serve military communities globally is driven by donations, making efforts like runDisney’s critical to USO operations.

“One of the things I love most about runDisney is giving runners the chance to be part of something bigger,” said Adam Ball, Vice President of Disney Sports. "Knowing that every mile can also support the USO and the work they do for service members and their families makes the experience even more meaningful.”
